HP has found a way out for WebOS. After purchasing the mobile operating system Palm in 2010 to abandon iy in August 2011 after the fiasco of its TouchPad Tablet, the American manufacturer will eventually turn it into a system open source by September 2012.
HP has a schedule with detailed steps leading to the spread of Open Web OS 1.0 by September 2012. This change begins in January with a new development environment called Envyo 2.0. Adopting the Apache 2.0 license, Envyo should allow the developers to build applications running on WebOS as well as in other platforms like Android and iOS, and through the major Internet browsers.
As of next March, will adopt a WebOS Linux kernel. At this time it will change its name to Open WebOS. The first beta will be deployed in August before a final release in September.
