Firefox on Android

This is the first official release of Firefox for Android, the mobile version of web browser (codenamed Fennec) for mobile phones equipped with Google’s operating system.

A test version is available for download from this night, only equipped for mobile version 2.0 (or higher) of Android. The software has been tested on two devices Android, Motorola Milestone (Droid) and the Nexus One of Google.

Developers, however, warn users about the fragility of this first draft, which is not even at the stage of pre-alpha. Instability problems can therefore arise, leading to a crash and forcing the phone to restart the device. Mozilla invites testers to submit their comments on a Google group dedicated.

However, this draft provides an overview of the interface and browser. A video presentation (see below) based on an earlier version of Firefox on Android running on a Nexus One, is also available on YouTube. We discover that managing extensions on Firefox for Android is already operational.

Firefox for Mobile is already offered on the devices equipped with the Nokia Maemo. However, Mozilla has stopped development on Windows 7 Phone, regretting Microsoft’s choice to impose its technology developers SilverLight.
